The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) consists of more than 400 personnel that work to keep the citizens of Anchorage safe. The department responds to fires in the Anchorage bowl (a 100 square mile area) and to emergency medical service calls in the entire Municipality of Anchorage (1980 square miles). Anchorage currently has fourteen fire stations.
