ANCHORAGE RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY AS TREE CITY
Today, Mayor Mark Begich and the Alaska State Division of Forestry received the distinguished Tree City, USA award at Russian Jack Springs Park.
The Municipality of Anchorage received national recognition by being named a Tree City, USA on May 10 by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. The Tree City, USA program recognizes cities and towns that have provided an outstanding example for other communities by taking care of the urban forest resource.
“Trees provide color and life to our city,” says Mayor Mark Begich. “I am proud to join with other Mayors across the nation in celebrating the importance of trees to Anchorage, and to our Big Wild Life.”
