Office of the Mayor Internship

Description of Major Duties

The Municipality of Anchorage is looking for capable high school juniors or seniors that are willing to learn about office administration within city government.  This is a volunteer office administrative internship that will introduce the applicant to the many aspects of city government while working in the Mayor’s office.  The duties for this internship will include filing, greeting visitors and callers, photocopying, conducting research on the internet, typing letters and memos, and data entry.

Length of Internship

Determined by intern supervisor after interview.

Selection Criteria

1. Ability to communicate on a professional level each day.
2. Must be committed to working one to two hours after school (no more than 20 hours a week).
3. Have basic knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel software.
4. Basic typing skills.
5. Familiar with conducting internet research.
6. Ability to work independently.
7. Punctuality and reliability when work schedule contract is signed.
8. Ability to adhere to confidentiality agreement if applicable.

Eligibility

Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA and must be a high school junior or senior in the Anchorage School District.
