The information provided on our public web site is public information for public consumption… so why the copyright?
It makes sense if you think about it. For instance, the Star-Spangled Banner is in the public domain as well, but if an artist sings it and puts it on a CD for sale, it is copyrightable -- so it shouldn’t be swapped for free on the Internet! In other words, the "added-value" of the presentation of the material is considered intellectual property and is subject to copyright protection.
However, many elements of our public website may be freely used without permission.
