Eligibility Requirements
Child Care Assistance is available to families or legal guardians who are working, in school, or training. Job seeking coverage may be available. Children must be under thirteen (unless certified by a physician as developmentally disabled, at which time they are covered up to age nineteen).
How Do You Apply?
Applications for new clients can be requested by calling the Municipality of Anchorage Child Care Assistance program at 343-6700 or by picking up applications at 825 L Street, Suite 215.
Please be aware that high demand for Child Care Assistance may exceed available funding for the program. Because funds are limited, we cannot guarantee your placement on the program, and there may be a wait list to get into the program.
If you have a certificate of Indian blood from BIA, call Cook Inlet Tribal Council at (907) 265-5911.
What do you need to bring to apply?
The following items need to be brought to our office, if they apply to you.
- All pay information for income received in the prior two full months.
- If recently employed or have a new job, a new job letter must be brought in.
- Verification of other monthly income, such as, but not limited to: print-out of current ATAP amount, child support, grants and scholarships, and tips, bonuses and commissions.
- Registration, class schedule, and anticipated graduation date from school, or letter verifying training on agency letterhead with same information.
- All birth certificates for children in the household.
- Most current Federal Income Tax 1040 (signed and dated) or form 1722 from local IRS office if you were not required to file, if you are self employed.
- Divorce decree, including child-support information.
- If self-employed, submit a monthly profit and loss statement and a copy of your current business license.
How the Program Works
Eligibility caseworkers determine who qualifies for Child Care Assistance. Authorizations are issued outlining the coverage of child care. Subsidies are paid by the State of Alaska Childcare Programs to either licensed or approved child care providers on behalf of the parent. The child care providers must be either licensed or approved by the Municipality of Anchorage or State of Alaska. To be paid, providers can either download billing forms from the State Child Care Programs website or request the information and forms by calling the State Child Care Programs Office at 269-4500. Request for payment is submitted each month, after the month of care.
Who Chooses the Child Care Facility?
The parent or legal guardian chooses the child care home or center. All providers must be either approved or licensed before payment can be made.
How Much Will Child Care Assistance Pay Per Child?
The amount the Child Care Assistance program will pay for child care is computed on the family's income level. The Child Care Assistance Program will pay the balance of the co-pay of the following maximum rates:

New Child Care Providers
Prior to participation in any of the Child Care Assistance Programs, child care providers are required to either be approved or licensed by the Municpality of Anchorage or State Child Care Offices.
Community Care License Information for homes can be obtained by contacting the Municipality Child Care Licensing office at 825 "L" Street, 3rd Floor, 343-6536. Military Certificate: Contact 552-4224. All providers who reside on a federal installation may obtain a military certificate to operate a childcare home or facility. “Approved” Care Information:
To become Approved, you need to obtain information and complete necessary forms from the State Child Care Programs Office, 619 E. Ship Creek Avenue, Suite 230. If you have questions on this process, please call 269-4500.
All Providers must purchase a Business License
Licenses can be obtained through the Business License Office of the State of Alaska located at the State Occupational Licensing office at 550 West 7th, Suite 1500 or call 269-8160. A Business License may also be purchased on line at www.dced.state.ak.us/occ. The cost to you will be $200.00. Your Business License must reflect your address, you may not use a friend or relatives address.
