  1. The Department of Health & Human Services and Anchorage Police Department are cooperating to enforce the ordinance.
  2. When complaints about a business are made to the Department of Health & Human Services, two warning letters will be sent out to businesses. Repeated, confirmed complaints will be referred to a code enforcement officer or the APD.
  3. Those not complying with the new law are subject to fines up to $500 per violation, civil penalties up to $1,000 per violation, injunctive relief or criminal penalties.
  4. It is unlawful for any person to smoke in any area where smoking is prohibited. Those who fail to comply are subject to fines up to $500 for each violation, civil penalties up to $1,000 per violation, injunctive relief or even criminal penalties.
