Folic Acid for a Healthy Return

What is Folic Acid?

Folic acid is a B Vitamin needed for growth and healthy cells throughout life.  Folic acid is also called "folate"

Why if Folic Acid Important?

Current research suggests 400 mcg (0.4 mg) of folic acid each day to help protect against:

  • Birth Defects: In the U.S. each day, seven children are born with a neural tube birth defect that affects the spinal cord.  Women who get enough folic acid before and during pregnancy are less likely to have children with these defects.
  • Heart Disease: Heart disease is among the leading causes of death.  Folic acid helps prevent damage to blood vessels and reduces the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
  • Cancer: Cancer is among the leading cause of death.  Folic acid helps prevent damage to blood vessels and reduces the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
