IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM/FLU SHOTS

[Updated 01 April 2008] The Flu vaccine is available on a walk-in basis during normal clinic hours. The cost is $20 dollars, but it is free for children. We accept Medicare, 3rd party insurance, cash, check or credit card; however, we do not deny services based on the inability to pay. There are no restrictions this year, and vaccinating children ages 6 months to 5 years is strongly encouraged.
Regular General Clinic hours at the DHHS building (located at the corner of 9th Avenue and L Street) are as follows:
- Monday 8 AM to 6:00 PM
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 1 PM to 6:00 PM
- Friday 8 AM to 5:00 PM
Immunizations for vaccine-preventable diseases are an important component of public health. Immunizations are given at the Health Department at 825 L Street (corner of 9th Ave. and L St.), in the first floor General Clinic.
Please bring your child's immunization record at each visit.

Costs:
Flu shots cost $20 for adults.
There is no charge for infant and childhood immunizations.
Charges for other adult vaccines vary.
No one will be denied service due to inability to pay.

TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL PROGRAM

TB is an airborne disease.
TB is a serious disease.
Medicine is the only way to treat TB!
TB is treatable - contact your personal physician or the TB program if you have any of these signs or symptoms:
- Cough lasting longer than 3 weeks
- Weakness or feeling tired constantly
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Fever or chills
- Sweating at night
- Spitting up blood
- Known contact with a person with active tuberculosis disease
Your physician may refer you to the TB Program for medication, chest x-ray, sputums and follow-up.
TB services are offered at the General Clinic, located in the Health Department at 825 L Street on the first floor.

- Tuesday 1 PM to 6:00 PM
- Wednesday no TB services
- Thursday 8 AM to 6:00 PM
- Friday 8 AM to 5:00 PM

Costs (current as of 04/01/2008):
$27.00 for TB skin test. Ranging from $72.00 to $151.00 for required TB clearance. No one will be denied service due to inability to pay. There is no charge for children.
We accept Master Card and Visa.
How to get a Tuberculosis Control Card:
Persons with prior negative skin tests will receive a skin test each year.
Persons with prior positive skin tests must have documented skin test results and a verifiable chest x-ray report. It is the client's responsibility to bring documentation to the TB clinic.
A Tuberculosis Control Card is valid for one year only.
SCREENING FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASES

The Disease Prevention and Control Program provides screening and counseling to individuals at risk for reportable infectious diseases. These include: Hepatitis A, B, and C; rubella and measles, and specimen collection for foodborne illnesses such as giardia, salmonella and shigella.

Costs (current as of 04/01/2008):
The total charge including office visit and other fees ranges from $123.00 to $172.00. No one is denied service due to inability to pay. There is no charge for the HIV test itself. The State Lab may charge for other tests when indicated.
We bill insurance and we accept Master Card and Visa.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASE REPORTING

The Disease Prevention and Control Program public health nurses provide timely and appropriate response to real and potential communicable disease outbreaks such as foodborne illnesses and measles. This includes the collection of specimens, and interviews of people who have been exposed or who may be carriers. The Disease Prevention and Control Program staff works closely as a team with the State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and the Municipality's section of Environmental Sanitation on foodborne and disease outbreaks. IMMIGRATION CLEARANCE

The Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Health and Human Services Disease Prevention and Control program (DPC) provides medical clearance, screening, and treatment of tuberculosis and other reportable diseases for immigrants and refugees in cooperation with the State Refugee Coordinator and Catholic Social Services’ Refugee Assistance & Immigration Services (RAIS) program. More information about Catholic Social Services’ RAIS program can be found here. Services include a medical history, physical examination, chest x-ray and necessary laboratory work. The cost of the chest x-ray is $33.00. A service fee is charged for the office visit and it is based on income. No one is denied service due to the inability to pay.
