Deborah Bonito
Biography
First Lady Deborah Bonito moved to Ft. Richardson in 1976, when her father was assigned to be the head of facilities and engineering on post. Her father extended his tour for three extra years so that Deborah could be the first of his three children to attend one high school all four years. The whole family fell in love with Alaska and still lives here almost 30 years later! After graduating from Bartlett High School, Deborah spent four years at Claremont McKenna College just outside of LA. She graduated in 1985 with a BA in Literature and Political Science.
Deborah and Mark met in 1987 and they were married the summer of 1990. They were blessed with the birth of a son, Jacob, in July of 2002.
Deborah worked as a legislative aide off and on for five years, using her summers to start a small retail business selling smoked salmon from a cart downtown. Currently, she is the President of The Sourdough Mercantile and Kobuk Coffee Company. She owns operates a gift shop and a book shop at the Ted Stevens International Airport and is co-owner of The Kobuk downtown on 5th and E with her brother, Michael, and sister, Nina.
