About the Project

Working with a local team of experts and partners, Anchorage First Lady Deborah Bonito created ABC Read and Talk with Me Anchorage to encourage and support efforts by Anchorage parents and child care providers to share books with their children. The goal is to distribute books and early learning materials to over 5,000 Anchorage children under the age of six.

To reach a city-wide group of parents and caregivers, the book bags would be distributed through a three-pronged approach through partnerships with the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) WIC program, the MOA Child Care Assistance Office, and Child Care Connection. In addition, the ABC project and Child Care Connection have developed a series of early learning classes for child care providers and caregivers to help ensure that Anchorage’s youngest children are exposed to early learning practices from the beginning. Participants that complete the full series of classes will receive a rebate on their tuition.
