The Training Division of the Anchorage Fire Department provides training and service in the following areas:

  • Pre-employment recruitment and testing             
  • New Hire Orientation and Safety Training             
  • In-service Training and Career Development             
  • Promotional Testing and Certification             
  • EMS Continuing Education

This Division is under the direction of a Deputy Chief who coordinates Fire and EMS training, testing and program development, and three Training Specialists who deliver instruction in fire, EMS, and hazardous materials. The staff also includes a Facility Coordinator, and a Senior Fire Office Assistant.

The Division is housed in the Anchorage Fire Training Center at 1140 Airport Heights Road. The facility consists of classrooms and administrative offices, a large drill tower, and confined space, hazardous material and rescue/extrication props.

It is the intent of the Training Division to provide the highest level of safety and service to the public and the department through quality education, attention to innovation, and vigilance in recruitment and promotion of qualified personnel.
