Burn Permit Information

Safe burning practices are critical to the prevention of brush fires. If you must burn spruce bark beetle killed woody debris, you must adhere to the safety standards set forth in your burn permit. If you have questions, contact the Wildfire Mitigation Office at 907-267-4980.
Residential Burn Permits are available for all residents within the Municipality of Anchorage. These permits are valid for the burning of spruce bark beetle kill only. No grass or leaves may be burned. It is NOT permitted to burn trash or contruction debris. This burn permit type is applicable to all residents throughout the Municipality of Anchorage.

If you wish to burn, you must first obtain a valid permit. Permits are available at http://afd.muni.org or by calling 267-5020 or by visiting your nearest fire station between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. On the day you wish to burn, you must confirm that it is an approved burn day by visiting http://afd.muni.org or call 267-5020. Daily burn approval is contingent upon the air quality index, ventilation factor, wind and fire weather indices. Please refer to the safe burning standards posted below. These same guidelines are printed on your new burn permit.
For information regarding recreational burns, please see the safe burning standards below. For ceremonial fires and bonfires, please call the AFD Fire Prevention Division at 267-4900. Permit and Inspection fees apply. Please call two weeks in advance of your scheduled event.
Residents must strictly adhere to the guidelines below. Burning may only be conducted in designated areas approved by the Anchorage Fire Department. Please remember that failure to follow these guidelines and restrictions may result in possible fines and/or legal action. You are responsible for your fire and you are liable if it gets out of control!
