Community Diversity Coalition Gathering The Mayor’s Office of Equal Opportunity hosts its Community Diversity Coalition Gathering – “A Call to Action” the fourth Thursday of every other month at 12:00 p.m. at various cultural meeting places in Anchorage. This is an opportunity for our diverse community to come together to enhance communication and to learn about efforts in Anchorage that are helping people invest the time to get to know one another and develop trust and respect across diverse community lines. This brown bag lunch meeting is one way to keep informed on key issues affecting our diverse community. This is a public, open, community meeting so feel free to disseminate this information and invite others to attend. 2008 Mayor’s Diversity Month In 2004, the Mayor’s Office was pleased to launch (an annual community project) Mayor’s Diversity Week – a broad-based campaign that brought leaders and representatives from cultural, community, business, civic, religious and school-based organizations together to host events that combat bias and promote a respect for diversity. The city is pleased to announce this year Mayor’s Diversity Week changed to Mayor’s Diversity Month, September 1 through September 30. The embracing, educating, and celebrating of diversity is a top priority of the city. Anchorage citizens are blessed to live in a community that represents a wide diversity of people, cultures, and religions. Our city boasts 95 different languages. We recognize that diversity is not only our strength, but at its core is the essence of all the differences that make each of us valuable. All events and programs help build positive relationships, partnerships and bridges to encourage acceptance of Anchorage’s broad diversity base. The community is again invited to participate in the celebration by hosting a diversity event in conjunction with Mayor’s Diversity Month” or to assist with an already scheduled event. The Mayor’s Diversity Appreciation and Awards Dinner is Saturday, September 27, at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, 401 E. 6th Avenue. If you or your organization/company is interested in hosting a diversity event, please click on the events link, complete the events form and submit the completed form at one of the upcoming organizing meetings (see meeting dates below) and/or fax to 343-4875. Organizing meetings are every other Thursday at 5:30 PM beginning June 26 in the Mayor’s Conference Room, 8th floor, City Hall, 632 W. 6th Avenue.
