Share A Ride

Anchorage Share-A-Ride works to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by promoting alternatives to driving alone. Serving the Municipality of Anchorage since the late 1970s, vanpooling was added in 1995. In addition to offering rideshare services to both commuters and employers, we promote transit, vanpooling, carpooling, biking and walking.

Through Share-A-Ride’s vanpool program, eight to 13 people can share the ride to work for approximately $130* a month, a savings of thousands of dollars each year over the cost of driving to work alone. The longer your commute, the more economical a vanpool tends to be. One person usually drives and maintains the van while riders pay a monthly fare. We provide the van and your monthly fare covers fuel, maintenance, insurance and mileage.

Vanpooling is safe, reliable and the most cost effective means of commuting. Our vans are comfortably equipped with overhead reading lights, individually controlled heat/air vents and reclining high-back seating.

*actual fare will vary based on choice of mileage program and number of active participants in each vanpool.

Carpool

Carpooling is another great way to relax on your way to and from work, saving you money and reducing wear and tear on your vehicle.

Participants are matched by home and work locations as well as working hours. Once provided with a matchlist, individuals may contact those on the list to make arrangements.
