Recycling at SWS

HOT OFF THE PRESS: ALPAR 2016-2017 Recycling Guide

Where and What to Recycle

SWS currently offers curbside recycling collection to more than 10,000 of its residential customers as part of an automated trash and recycling collection service that began in the fall of 2009.  The program was expanded to include all remaining SWS customers in the fall of 2014.

Glass Recycling Drop-offs

Glass is not allowed in curbside recycling roll carts. However, we strongly encourage residents to recycle their glass jars and bottles at one of Anchorage's community drop-off locations!

Community-wide Recycling Programs

SWS is developing numerous community-wide recycling programs, including expanded recycling drop-off areas, public space recycling, and school recycling.

  • Community Recycling Centers – drop off your recyclables for free at one of these convenient locations.
  • School Recycling – all Anchorage School District schools and facilities will have access to mixed paper recycling.
  • Public Space Recycling – see where you can find recycling bins when in a public building.
  • Composting – In July of 2016 SWS launched a Community Composting Pilot Program - 6.71 tons of food waste was diverted!
