​The Spenard Community Recreation Center is committed to providing a safe and clean environment for patrons and staff while abiding by the CDC and the Municipality of Anchorage guidelines​ regarding COVID-19. Visitors to the facility will notice changes in the hours and days of operation, and in program delivery. These changes have been put in place to keep staff, patrons, and community members as safe as possible. Spenard Recreation Center

The Spenard Community Recreation Center is a fun place to work out, join a class, play a game of basketball, use the weight room, or relax in the sauna in a family-friendly community setting. There is something here for everyone! The center offers a variety of programs like volleyball, basketball, racquetball, pickleball, badminton, a teen center, youth gym; and hosts toddler time and a kinder gym class. Spenard Community Recreation Center also offers a full-day summer camp to provide young people in the community with a safe, active way to spend their summer. For those looking for event space, the center offers room rentals, and can accommodate anything from wedding receptions to sport or dance practice, meetings, and other special events. On the center's grounds, a skate park offers hours of outdoor fun. Spenard Recreation Center Summer Camp​

Spenard Recreation Center Summer Day Camp registration is open now! Campers will enjoy full-day activities, including swimming, biking, games, crafts -- all under the supervision of experienced, caring staff who are excited about another summer of outdoor fun! Camp begins June 1 and runs through August. Fees start at $190/week and families may be eligible for daycare assistance. Find out  more, HERE.

Spenard Skate Park​

The skate park features grind boxes with grind rails, a flat, kinked grind rail, skate table, jump ramp, 2-quarter pipe, 3-sided pyramid with stairs, mini half-​pipe combination, and a custom curved grindrail.

.***Please Note: Due to safety reasons the skate park will not open if the ground equipment is wet. The Spenard Skate Park is available for rental at certain times and days.  Call at 343-4160 for more information.***​

​Room Rental Information

Spenard Community Recreation Center rents out each of its rooms to private groups for special events. Please keep in mind that due to COVID-19 some rooms may not be available at this time and the capacity of each room is limited. Please call to inquire about which rooms are available and at what capacity. The multi-purpose room is great for large meetings, luncheons, receptions, and seminars.  The commercial-sized kitchen may be rented by itself or as part of any room reservation.  The full-size gym can host tournaments, birthday parties, and other special functions.  The dance studio is perfect for private dance lessons or martial arts seminars.  Please contact staff at 343-4160  for information regarding reservation procedures and availability, or fill out the Room Rental Reservation Request and fax it to 248-0859. For requests that include alcohol, an Alcohol Waiver must be submitted as well. Community Meetings/Organizations:

  • Spenard Community CouncilOpen general membership meeting held on the first Wed. of every month at 7 p.m. 
  • Parks & Recreation Commission: Meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. 
  • Children's Lunchbox: Free take home meals given to kids every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 3-3:45 p.m. in the center's parking lot.

Spenard Community Recreation Center​​

NO CASH transactions will take place; only recreation center punch passes or credit/debit cards are acceptable forms of payment.

  • ​Need to purchase or refill a punch card? Visit www.muni.org/Active to purchase.

The following amenities will be offered upon reopening:

*Masks will be required for all users of the facility.*  

  • ​Weight Room - All patrons must maintain six feet between themselves and others not in their immediate household. Some equipment may not be available for use. 
  • Dance Room - All users must maintain six feet of distance between themselves and others. Some equipment may not be available.. 
  • Racquetball Courts - By reservation only...no drop-ins (reservations are staggered). Walley Ball is not available at this time. Patrons must bring their own racquet and balls. 
  • Multipurpose Room, Teen Room, and Craft Room are available by reservation only.​ ​

The following amenities will not be offered: 

  • ​Showers/Lockers/Sauna
  • Water Fountains/Vending Machines 
  • Classes or Programs are cancelled until further notice​

General Guidelines: 

  • ​Patrons are required to wear a face covering in municipal buildings. Should you need a face covering, we will be happy to provide you one upon your arrival to the recreation center. Your face covering must remain on at all times, even while working out. 
  • Only patrons who are participating in an open activity area will be allowed in. No spectators, or children waiting for others will be allowed at this time.
  • Restrooms are for recreation center users, only.

  • ​​​Please wash or sanitize hands upon entry. 

  • Patrons should bring only essential items to the recreation center (keys, phone, water bottle, etc.)

  • Patrons should come dressed in their workout clothes and leave in their workout clothes as the locker rooms and showers will not be available for use. If you require water, please bring your own water bottle. 

​What To Expect When You Arrive 

  • ​​A recreation staff member will be at the front entrance to greet you. 
  • All patrons/vendors must answer the screening questions before being allowed to enter the facility and sign the "Visitor Log" with your name, telephone number, and email address. ​
  • Patrons will pay at the front desk with either a recreation center punch pass or a cred/debit card.
  • The recreation center is implementing a single entrance and exit only to help control the flow of customer traffic. 
    ​​** Enter only through the building entrance clearly marked as such. 
  • ** A separate exit will be communicated to each patron and will be clearly marked.​
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the recreation center. 
  • Staff will conduct regular sanitization of high-touch surfaces, equipment, and common areas of the facility. 
  • Activity area specific guidelines will be communicated to patrons prior to or upon arrival at the recreation center. 
  • Patrons not following mandatory guidelines will be asked to leave the facility. ​
