2009 Mayor’s Diversity Month
Unity Dinner
In 2004, the Mayor’s Office launched Mayor’s Diversity Week, a broad-based campaign that brought leaders and representatives from cultural, community, business, civic, religious and school-based organizations together to host events that promote diversity. Due to the popularity of the effort, the program expanded to a month in 2006.
Diversity month is made up of events and programs that encourage dialogue, partnerships and respect for Anchorage’s diverse population. The community is invited to participate in the events by hosting an event in conjunction with the week, or to assist with a scheduled event.
In keeping with the theme that our diverse community has more similarities than differences, the mayor is proud to announce the first Mayor’s Unity Dinner on Friday, September 25, at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel, 500 W. 3rd Avenue. The event will highlight the common values and quality of life all cultures enjoy in our diverse city. Community awards will be presented during the dinner. “Our community is made up of many unique groups, but we all share some common values: the importance of family, quality education for our children, and safe, vibrant neighborhoods. This year’s event is meant to celebrate these values while respecting the diversity that makes Anchorage such a great place to live,” said Mayor Dan Sullivan.
