Program Description
The Homeowner Rehabilitation Program provides assistance to Anchorage's low- and moderate-income homeowners as defined by HUD. Types of assistance includes:

Major home improvements and repairs that will increase the livability and usefulness of the property;

Weatherization to make a home more comfortable and to increase energy efficiency, thereby reducing energy costs; and,

Accessibility improvements designed to improve livability for physically impaired eligible applicants.
Assistance is provided in the form of a 80% loan and 20% grant. Maximum assistance is $43,750 ($35,000 loan, $8,750 grant). The terms of the loan portion of assistance are 5% of the loan is forgiven over 10 years with the balance due and payable upon the sale or transfer of the deed or title. There is no interest associated with the loans. The $35,000 loan maximum may be exceeded for lead-based paint activities, health and safety issues, and excess code-compliance deficiencies upon approval by the Municipality of Anchorage.
