Q. What are the business hours of Property and Evidence?
A. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Closed holidays) Release of property is by appointment only.

A. Due to the volume of property being released and the storage location of the property, an appointment is necessary for returning items in a timely manner.

Q. Does it cost anything to claim the disposable property?
A. Yes, Anchorage Municipal code requires owners and/or finders reimburse a portion of the advertising fees per item. Fees for postage and handling will also be charged, if applicable.
Q. What happens to the money collected for reimbursement of fees or proceeds generated by the sale of any disposable property item?
A. All reimbursement fees, auction or sale proceeds are deposited by the Municipal Treasury into the Anchorage Metropolitan Police Service Area Fund. Each year the Municipal Assembly appropriates funds from the Anchorage Metropolitan Police Service Area Fund to the police department budget which are intended to cover the costs associated with advertising, public notification, postage, and other expenses associated with the legal requirements to lawfully purge disposable property.
Q. How can I claim my property if I live outside the Anchorage area?
A. Property can be mailed to you after all postage, handling and advertising fees are paid for. Firearms require special handling considerations.
Q. What happens to found bicycles?
A. Bicycles that are not claimed, are given to the Anchorage Community YMCA and sold annually at their public auction.

Q. How do I register my bicycle?
A. Contact National Bike Registry at 1-800-848-BIKE (2453) or their website for more information. The National Bike Registry is available in all 50 states and utilized by law enforcement agencies to locate owners of lost and found bicycles.
