ANCHORAGE ALASKA HIRING
25 POLICE OFFICERS
- No College Degree Required-
Anchorage, is a modern city that still has that small town feel. From great shopping, schools, and unlimited outdoor activities, we have something for everyone. APD is hiring police officers for an academy scheduled for May 18, 2009. Our academy is a non-residential program and you will be paid while attending the academy. The 2009 starting hourly wage for lateral officers is $27.83 and for new officers is $22.28. Upon completion of training wages increase to $27.83.
The APD Recruiting Unit will be traveling in January to Minnesota and Michigan. Details on dates and locations are listed below. Those interested in testing in one of these locations need to submit a request to test form with the city name (Minneapolis or Ann Arbor) you plan on testing in noted on the top of the request to test form. Then fax the form to 907-786-8618 or email it to shaas@ci.anchorage.ak.us.
Normally out of state applicants have to make two separate one week trips to Anchorage to complete the hiring process. By testing at one of the locations below, the applicant will reduce the number of trips they have to make to Anchorage down to one.
If you have any questions contact Officer Steve Haas by email at shaas@ci.anchorage.ak.us or by phone 907-786-2463 or Sgt. Couturier by email at mcouturier@ci.anchorage.ak.us or by phone at 907-786-2444.
Applicants must bring their driver's license, a completed (and notarized) background questionnaire (available under the forms link), most recent evaluation from their employer, original or certified copy of high school diploma or GED, original or certified copy of DD214 (if applicable). Although advance registration is preferred, walk-ins will be accepted if they meet the requirements.
The testing schedule will be the same each day, a briefing in the morning which will explain the selection process, pay & benefits, life in Anchorage, followed by a break before testing. For testing, dress comfortably, you do not need to dress up! The written testing has four components, vocabulary, reading comprehension, report writing test, and a video based judgment test. The company that produces the video based judgment test is Ergometrics, their website is http://www.ergometrics.org/about1.htm. Their website has sample test questions available for purchase. Those that are successful will then complete a personal history questionnaire. You do not need to bring any paperwork or notes for the personal history questionnaire.
The successful applicant should plan on a two day process. Applicants passing the written testing on their first day will be scheduled for the physical ability test and psych written battery on the following day. APD staff will notify individual applicants of their invitation to attend additional processing in Anchorage. Those applicants should plan travel to Anchorage, Alaska for final processing from March 10th through the 20th. Processing in Anchorage will include preliminary interview, psych assessment, medical evaluation, and polygraph examination. Further information will be provided during the briefing.
