Chief of Police Biography
Duane Udland
February 1997 - January 2001
Chief Udland was born in Minot, North Dakota. He began his law enforcement career in 1972 with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office in Spokane, Washington. He spent a year working in the jail, four years as a patrolman and one year as a detective. In February of 1978 he moved to Soldotna, Alaska and began employment with the Soldotna Police Department. In July he was promoted to Sergeant, and on August 4, 1982 he was appointed Chief. In 1988 he accepted the Deputy Chief position with the Anchorage Police Department.
Mr. Udland holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Eastern Washington State College and has attended numerous in-service training sessions in addition to his basic Police Academy training.
