Chief of Police Biography
Charles Anderson
June 1974 - February 1980
Chief Anderson was born in Kodiak, Alaska. He began his law enforcement career in 1953 with the Anchorage Police Department. After serving three years as a patrolman, he was promoted to Investigator. In January 1960, Chief Anderson was promoted to Sergeant of Investigations. In 1970, he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant and in 1971, to Captain of Detectives. In March 1973, he was appointed Deputy Chief , and in June 1974 he was selected as Chief of Police. Chief Anderson has attended many law enforcement training schools including the Keeler Polygraph Institute, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs School, and the 83rd Session of the FBI National Academy. Chief Anderson is a member of the Governor's Commission of the Criminal Justice System, a member of the Executive Board of the University of Alaska Criminal Justice Center and is the President of the Alaska Association of Chief's of Police. Chief Anderson lives in Anchorage with his wife Georgia and their two children.
