To help ensure emergency responders are provided accurate address information from 9-1-1 calls, citizens can verify their address using the Municipality of Anchorage’s residential phone verification number. When citizens call 565-6789 from their home phones, they will be able to confirm what physical address their phone company has for them. The city gets its 9-1-1 emergency response address information from these phone company records.
There are some limitations. The call-in system is currently designed for residents of Anchorage and Chugiak/Eagle River, but not Girdwood. Girdwood homes have no addresses so there can be no address location lookup based on a telephone number.
In addition, the system will not identify locations of cell phone callers, Private Branch Exchange (PBX) lines, or TTY/TDD-capable phones.
Address Verification System Instructions
- Caller dials 565-6789 from home
- A computer-generated voice reads the physical address listed in the 9-1-1 system
- The caller is prompted to press one (1) on their phone pad if the address is correct and two (2) if the address is incorrect
- If the caller presses one (1) the check is complete
- If the caller presses two (2) they will be prompted to call the phone company at a special number to reconcile difference. This will also trigger an automatic log entry that will be investigated by the phone companies in cooperation with the Municipality of Anchorage.
