The First Summer 

on the Trails!

The first full year of Trail Watch was focused on improvements and projects at the Westchester Lagoon Trail Watch Headquarters.  The Advisory Committee assisted the volunteers focusing attention on sprucing up the area around the former Anchorage Police Department Sub Station located at Westchester Lagoon to help with first impressions.

The following are some of the 2004 Trail Watch project highlights.

Trail Watch Headquarters
Volunteers focused efforts upgrading and finishing the conversion of the Westchester Lagoon Police Substation into a functional Welcome station, mini concession site and Trail Watch Headquarters.  By early August the facility was ready and open on August 17.  Work included;

• Painting the inside and outside of facility.
• Helping convert the interior for concessions
• Upgrading the utilities and phone capacity for summer operations

Westchester Lagoon
Volunteers focused efforts upgrading and adopting the area around the Westchester Lagoon Trail Watch Headquarters into a inviting park setting. Work included;

• Planting shrubs and flowers around building
• Constructing flower beds and flower boxes
• Filling in and seeding muddy lawn areas around building
• Brushing the contoured landscape areas
• Increasing the frequency of Mowing in grass areas adjacent to building
• Collecting trash, litter and junk from wetlands area behind the building
