Campbell Creek Trail users will encounter Anchorage Fire Department Firewise crews beginning April 30th for approximately 3 weeks between Taku Lake and Dowling Road . Tree thinning and fire fuel reduction measures will be conducted on the east side of the trail avoiding the stream corridor. Woody debris will be chipped and recycled into the park. Trail work will generally be between the times of 8:30a and 5pm Monday - Thursday. Work will enhance the visibility, reduce the potential of fire and will double as a trail safety makeover. Shopping cart full of liquor bottles northeast side of A street overpass and near the footbridge that meets Chester trail about 40 yards east of the A street overpass and west of footbridge. Homeless camp is in trees, on Chester Creek bank, south of Buc's baseball stadium and west of trail bridge that goes north toward Cordova street. Graffiti / vandalism occurred on some of the planets of the Rotary Planet Walk located on the Coastal Trail this past week. Skiers and trail users should use caution when crossing the AWWU water line construction area just south of Tudor Road. While the trail is open, the water line crossing / construction area is rutted, uneven and snow free. The contractor is planning to haul snow in from the Chuck Albrecht softball complex Friday, February 29 creating a snow base that will allow Nordic groomers to do their magic for this weekend and the Tour of Anchorage ski race. The contractor will not be working this weekend due to the events but will resume Monday with trail conditions expected to deteriorate with the crossing of trucks and equipment. The Old Rondy Trail / Tour of Anchorage route has been reopened but due to the construction is uneven, rough with little to no snow on it. Trail users should use caution when crossing. Report posted 2-19-08

With recent warmer weather, the AWWU water line contractor was able to lay several sections of pipe reaching the Old Rondy Trail / Tour of Anchorage route. The trail will be closed beginning 2/13 for 3-4 days pending no unforeseen issues. A trail detour route is being evaluated utilizing a portion of the dog mushing trails to minimize impacts. If established, users are asked to stay on the flagged detour route to avoid dog team conflicts. Thank you for your patience. Report posted 2-13-08

The western segment of the Campbell Creek Trail near Dimond BLVD between Northwood and Victor will be closed the week of February 11-15 for utility manhole repair. AWWU will be accessing the manhole at the bottom of the hill via the trail using heavy equipment. Westbound users will be directed to exit at the Northwood access trail. Trail users of the Old Rondy Trail of the Tour of Anchorage Route between Tudor Road and the BLM Campbell Creek Science Center should use caution in the area of the AWWU water line installation south of Tudor. A trail detour will be established to go around the construction area in mid February. Pipeline construction is planned to be east of the trail by the end of February to allow for the Iditarod & Tour of Anchorage ski events. Report posted 2-5-08

The Campbell Creek Trail east of Elmore Road and south of Tudor Road is now open after the installation of the AWWU Water Line under the trail. The trail area where the water line crossed was filled with gravel with snow placed over it. Users should use caution in this rough area of trail. Report posted 2-4-08

The Campbell Creek Trail east of Elmore Road and south of Tudor Road will be closed January 25-31st due to the installation of the AWWU Water Line. Due to the recent thaw, trail conditions and to minimize impacts of creating a ski detour route, the least impact to trail users would be to close the trail for the installation of the pipe under the trail. A detour will be established using the Elmore Road multi use trail to access the Tudor Road Bridge and University Lake trails. Report posted 1-23-08

Coastal Trail from Westchester to Kincaid was packed before weekend. Views were spectacular but skiers should take extra hand warmers in packs when temperatures are so cold. Helped two skiers with numb hands. Report submitted 1-11-08

Skied Chester Creek Trail and found the three tunnels nearest Lagoon have good snow cover. Valley of the Moon/Arctic and Lake Otis tunnels very thin layer of snow. A and C street, and Gambell tunnel are bare. Additionally on the north side of Northern Lights at the old Goose Lake campground, reported missing manhole cover has been replaced.
