University-Medical District Master Plan
Description
The Municipality and several public and private institutions in the Universities and Medical (U-Med) District joined in a unique partnership to prepare a master plan that would provide a framework for future land use and transportation decisions in the District. The adopted master plan replaces the 1983 Goose Lake Plan and becomes part of the Anchorage 2020/Anchorage Bowl Comprehensive Plan.
Citizen Participation
The U-Med/Universities & Medical District Framework Master Plan was prepared by ZGF Architects, Inc., under contract with the Municipality. Representatives of institutions and interests in the District participated on a Steering Committee to guide development of the Plan. Community meetings were held in December 2002 and February 2003. The Public Review Draft was distributed for review and comment in May 2003.
The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on July 14, 2003, and approved the Plan with amendments. The Commission's recommendation was forwarded to the Assembly for its public hearing on October 7, 2003. The Assembly approved the Plan with amendments on October 21, 2003.
The adopted Plan is provided in Documents for Review, along with other relevant information. The Public Review Draft and the July 2000 draft version of the Plan are also available in Documents for Review. A printed version of the adopted plan may be purchased for $15 from the Planning Department.
