In response to concerns by the community and Anchorage Assembly, Mayor Matt Claman today announced he will restore most of the Eagle River bus routes originally targeted for cuts. Fuel savings of approximately $300,000 of People Mover’s projected 2009 budget will be redirected to maintain nearly 70 percent of services.
“I’m pleased to reinstate bus routes to the Eagle River community,” Claman said. “Reducing services is never easy to do and we’re fortunate that we’re able to give these services back to residents.”
The $450,000 in cuts to People Mover service were proposed in early February to help address the city’s $17 million revenue shortfall. The affected routes included service to Eagle River, Birchwood, Chugiak, the Old Glenn Highway and Peter’s Creek.
Public hearings will be held this week regarding the People Mover service:
