Changes to People Mover and AnchorRIDES take effect Monday, July 2

Public Transportation

6/29/2018

ANCHORAGE - The Municipality of Anchorage's (MOA) Public Transportation Department (PTD) will be implementing new route changes for People Mover and transferring operations from AnchorRIDES to the Chugiak Senior Center for the Chugiak/Eagle River area. Changes go into effect Monday, July 2, 2018.

The routes affected are the neighborhood routes 11, 21, 31, and a new route 41. The starting and/or ending point for each of these routes will change, as well as the bus arrival times for each stop along the route. The changes are aimed to improve on-time performance, make the routes less confusing, and add additional destinations and transfer opportunities. These proposals are based on rider feedback collected since the implementation of the new bus service in October 2017 and during the public comment period held between April 4 and May 7, 2018.

PTD is also transferring the operation of AnchorRIDES in the Chugiak/Eagle River premium service area to the Chugiak Senior Center (CSC). This transfer will improve the rider experience above current thresholds, as well as remove the duplication of service coverage that is currently offered by both PTD and SCS. The CSC has been operating a transportation program since 1976 and they service a larger area than AnchorRIDES currently does, which includes the area between Hiland Road, north to Eklutna.

Riders are encouraged to review the changes and plan their trips in advance of Monday to ensure they make it to their destinations on time. All the changes can be viewed online (http://www.peoplemover.org/) and paper copies are available at Customer Service at the Downtown Transit Center. Riders can also call 907.343.6543 for more information.

AnchorRIDES users in the Chugiak/Eagle River area should continue to call 907.343.6543 to book trips in advance with the CSC.
