Acting Mayor Matt Claman has just released the second round of budget reductions to meet the $17 million revenue shortfall.

The Public Transportation Department budget has been reduced another $422,306 and requires the elimination, effective in July, of Routes 77 and 78 in the Eagle River area. These routes typically serve about 12-15 passengers per hour of service and are the least productive routes in our system, accounting for approximately 95,000 annual passenger trips. Service on Route 102-Park & Ride will continue.

“All departments have been asked to propose reductions in service to meet the budget shortfall,” said Jody Karcz, Public Transportation Director. “We were hoping to retain our routes and days of service, but this is a significant reduction, and there are very few places to make cuts. We based our decision on impacting the least number of riders”.

Eight positions will be eliminated in July as a result of this reduction, and will hopefully be accomplished with vacant positions.
