People Mover Service Change

The Municipality of Anchorage Public Transportation Department has a service change scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019.

The Public Transportation Department regularly revises routes and service to recognize changes in travel patterns, improve on-time performance and serve you better.

What's Changing?

All Routes

In order  to improve on-time performance and transfer opportunities, all routes will have new schedules effective Monday, July 1, 2019.

In addition, Sunday service will increase by one hour on all routes (except Routes 91 and 92) and there will be one weekend schedule, as opposed to Saturday and Sunday each having an individual schedule.

Route 40: Spenard/Airport

Weekday service will end at midnight. Currently, the Route 40 is the only route that operates until 2 AM. Route 40 will also operate as a loop, beginning and ending at the Downtown Transit Center. This will allow people coming and going to the airport to use any bus stop without having to re-board at the end of the trip when arriving at the south terminal bus stop.

Route 55: Lake Otis

Weekday service will increase to operate every 30 minutes instead of every 60 minutes. The Route 55 will also be extended to the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) and begin servicing all bus stops on Providence Dr.

Route 65: Jewel Lake
Route 65 will be rerouted to service the Airport. It will no longer begin and end at the Spenard Rd. and Wisconsin St. intersection. Additionally, it will also operate as a loop, beginning and ending at the Dimond Transit Center. Similar to the Route 40 loop, this will allow people coming and going to the airport to use any bus stop without having to re-board at the end of the trip when arriving at the south terminal bus stop.

Route 91: Huffman

Six trips will be added during the weekday between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM, as well as in the evening between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Other Changes

Routes 11, 21, 31, 41, 91 and 92

These routes are currently being operated by a contractor. Beginning July 1, 2019, they will be operated with bus operators employed by the Municipality of Anchorage, just like the frequent and standard routes. All routes will continue to be operated with the current size buses, except the Route 92. The two smaller buses on the Route 92 will be replaced with one larger 40' bus.
