What times is the service available?

Delivery is available during normal service hours, 7 days/week (excluding observed holidays).

Do I pay for delivery?

Non-senior customers age 59 and younger, will have a required delivery charge of $3.50/core service area delivery and $5.50/premium service area delivery. Drivers are unable to provide change, so please have exact fare or a fare ticket ready at the time of delivery (Non-fare payment policy still applies).

Deliveries to seniors 60 and older are grant funded by the State of Alaska's Department of Health and Human Services and will appreciate donations in any amount but it is not required.

Are Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver (HCB) customers eligible?

Home grocery delivery service is not available for HCB recipients but AnchorRIDES has an alternative option for HCB shopping trips. Please contact AnchorRIDES Customer Service for more information.

What grocery stores will you deliver from?

For a store to be eligible, groceries must be able to be:

  • Listed as one of the approved participating stores
  • Please select the store nearest to you. This allows us to transport each customer's goods in a timely manner. It's important to remember the further away the store, the longer your groceries will be on-board the vehicle.
  • Picked up from a commercial location within the AnchorRIDES Service Area
  • Picked up from the grocery store parking lot (no going inside a building)
  • Delivered to an address within the AnchorRIDES service area.

Will you deliver from the Food Bank? 

No. Unfortunately the Food Bank of Alaska is not offering this service. 

What information do I need to provide AnchorRIDES when setting up a delivery? 

You must provide AnchorRIDES customer service with the scheduled date and time for pick-up, order number (if available), the address of the grocer/pet store, your address, and the best contact phone number for you. 

Can I order frozen food or other perishables? 

Please do not order frozen food. Deliveries will be similar to passenger transit. If you order perishable items (milk, eggs, etc.), know that they may be on-board the vehicle for over an hour.

Can I receive a delivery if I'm not home? 

We cannot leave groceries on the front door if nobody is home to receive them. You will be given a delivery window in which your groceries are expected to be delivered. AnchorRIDES Dispatch will call you when your driver is at your location and confirm who is receiving it.

Will the operator bring the groceries into my home? 

No. AnchorRIDES operators will deliver all grocery bags to outer door of your residence, ring the doorbell, then step back at least six feet. AnchorRIDES Operators cannot step inside a customer home. Please stay at least six feet from the operator.

Will you pick-up from pet stores? 

Yes. This service includes groceries and essential household items, including food and supplies for pets and service animals. Pet stores must be able to bring orders out to the AnchorRIDES vehicle.

Is there a limit on the weight or number of grocery items?

Please keep orders to $100 or less and individual items to 30 pounds or less (Ex: 24 pack of water). You must be able to carry the items delivered to you as the driver will not bring them into your home. This service is intended for groceries and other essential items. AnchorRIDES will not deliver oversized items such as TV's or furniture.

Are you able to pick-up my prescription? 

Unfortunately, we are unable to pick up prescriptions. Most pharmacies offer the option to have your prescriptions mailed directly to your home. Check with your preferred pharmacy for more information. 

What items cannot be delivered? 

To comply with the Public Transportation code of conduct, the following items will not be delivered:

  • Tobacco products or illegal substances
  • Flammable or hazardous materials (Ex: Lighter fluid, lighters, etc.)
  • Alcohol
  • Firearms or other hazardous items (Ex: Knives, sharp cooking utensils, etc.)

What if my apartment is not on the ground floor?

An AnchorRIDES dispatcher will call you when your vehicle has arrived. Please keep your phone close and an eye out for your AnchorRIDES vehicle around the time your groceries are scheduled to arrive so you can collect the groceries at the door of your building.

I'm not currently an AnchorRIDES customer. Can I still have groceries delivered?

Unfortunately, grocery delivery is only available to currently eligible AnchorRIDES customers. If you would like to learn more about how to become an AnchorRIDES customer, visit our eligibility page.

What if I'm not given an order number when I place my grocery order?

If you don't have a number, we will use your name. If using your name, it is essential that you confirm with customer service that we have your correct name on file and that your grocery order was placed in that name.

All of my groceries will not be ready at the same time. What should I do?

We know some stores split orders as goods become available. We are happy to make multiple deliveries for one order however we will make a maximum of one delivery per day.

My store requires a call upon arrival to pick-up. Can you accommodate that?

Yes. If a store requires a call to pick up an order, the driver will contact dispatch when they arrive at the store.

Some of the items I ordered were not in the bags I received. What do I do?

AnchorRIDES is not responsible for checking the order when it is picked up from the store. Often, some items on your order may not have been available at the store. Check your receipt to see if you were charged for the items. If you were charged, follow up with the store or ordering service.

How do I cancel an order?

The same cancellation policy for AnchorRIDES still applies. Please call us at least 2 hours before your order pick-up time to cancel the delivery. It is the responsibility of the customer to cancel their grocery order directly with the store.

Can I use my EBT benefits for this service?

Unfortunately, AnchorRIDES cannot deliver EBT orders. The EBT program requires the customer to present their card for the transaction.
