Original Release:

APD Officers have taken two suspects into custody this afternoon following a lengthy search that started with a report of a burglary in progress in south Anchorage.

On 2/12/14 around 2:48 PM, Anchorage Police were called to a residence near the 6100 block of Romania Drive for a reported burglary in progress.  The complainant saw the suspects flee from the residence in a full size pick-up truck, and a computer check of the suspect vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen.  Locates for the suspects and the stolen vehicle were broadcast and a search in the region was conducted.

Sometime later, shortly before 5:00 PM, APD officers spotted the vehicle in a hotel parking lot near 34th and Old Seward.  Two male subjects associated with the vehicle ran from officers on foot, and dual foot pursuits ensued.  One of the suspects was taken into custody at that time.  The other suspect carjacked another vehicle from a male victim and fled the area, at one point causing extensive damage to a police cruiser; fortunately, the officer was not injured.  APD officers then followed the suspect to an area near Togiak Circle where they found the carjacked vehicle, abandoned and badly damaged. After setting up a perimeter and searching the area, APD officers eventually located the suspect and took him into custody peacefully.

This is an active, ongoing investigation.  Additional details concerning this incident may be released as they come available.

Note:      A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing.  All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
