Thanksgiving OUI Enforcement Results

During last week’s Thanksgiving Operating Under the Influence (OUI) enforcement, officers made 3 OUI arrests and issued 42 traffic related citations.

The ability to conduct this special enforcement is thanks to funding from the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities’ (ADOT&PF) Alaska Highway Safety Office. The funding also provided APD with 8 new OUI vehicles.

“We are always happy to partner with the State to provide extra OUI and traffic enforcement whenever possible,” said APD Chief Justin Doll. “It is encouraging to see low OUI arrests. We are glad residents are making plans and celebrating the holidays responsibly.”

The vast majority of OUI arrests involve alcohol, however, drugs such as marijuana and prescription also play a role. Since 2014, there have been more than 1,000 OUI related collisions; 25 have resulted in someone losing their life. Please see attached for further details.

This specialized enforcement will continue over the holidays when OUI incidents often increase.

Be safe and don’t drive impaired. This crime is completely preventable.
