Subject: Man Attempts Suicide Following Disturbance, Police Pursuit APD Case Number: 14-2614
An Anchorage resident attempted to end his life early this morning following a disturbance with his former girlfriend and a brief police pursuit.
At about 3:51 AM, Anchorage Police received a 911 call from a woman who claimed that her former boyfriend, Robert Allain, had shown up at her residence and threatened her with a gun.
A "locate" was broadcast for Allain’s vehicle which was spotted by police a few minutes later traveling eastbound near Dimond and Victor. Officers activated their lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle. Allain refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit southbound on Minnesota until he lost control and crashed his vehicle in the median near Klatt and C Street. The pursuit lasted approximately four minutes.
As officers approached the driver’s side door, Allain produced a gun and fired a single shot at his own head. Allain was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No other persons were injured in these incidents.
Updates on Allain’s condition will be provided as they become available
