Subject: Juveniles Arrested and Charged in College Gate Elementary Arson Case
Two male juveniles, both 7th graders of Anchorage, one 13-year-old and 14-year-old, were arrested and charged today in the arson case at College Gate Elementary School on October 25, 2013.
APD Dispatch received a call at 7:36 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 from a passerby reporting a fire on the playground at College Gate Elementary School. AFD responded and put the fire out within four minutes of arrival.
The fire caused damage to the rubber matting on the playground. Fire investigators estimate approximately $30,000 in damage to the playground as a result of the fire.
With the help of another student, an APD School Resource Officer was able to investigate and identify the two juveniles suspected of starting the fire. The juveniles were arrested and charged today and released back to their parents. Each juvenile was charged with one count of arson in the second degree and criminal mischief in the third degree.
