Subject:  Boy Dies Following Collision with Vehicle
Case Number:  13-38013

The 11-year old boy who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle across the Glenn Highway last week has died as a result of his injuries.

On September 2, 2013, at about 7:40 PM, Dante Gibbs and a friend were riding their bicycles when the pair attempted to cross six lanes of the Glenn Highway, northbound, just south of the Muldoon overpass.  The boys made it to the median after crossing the first three lanes of eastbound traffic; Gibbs attempted to cross the next three lanes of westbound traffic when he was struck by a 2007 Pontiac sedan, driven by Victor Cloninger, 37 of Anchorage.  Gibbs was transported to Providence Hospital where he never regained consciousness and died at 3:15 AM this morning.

APD Traffic Investigators say no citations will be issued. This tragedy serves as a reminder for bicyclists to cross the streets at designated crosswalks when the signal indicates it’s safe to do so, and to always wear a helmet.

Victim:  Dante (Don-tay) Gibbs

Driver:  Victor Cloninger (Clon-in-jur)
