Subject: Bicyclist Dies Following Collision with Motorist
Incident Update on Jan. 7, 2014:
Anchorage Police have made successful next of kin notification regarding the bicyclist who died following a collision with a motorist last week. The bicyclist has been identified as 65-year-old Eldridge Griffith. The collision is still under investigation. No citations or charges have been issued at this time.
Original Release on Jan. 2, 2014:
At 2:45 p.m. APD Dispatch received a report of a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle on Northern Lights Blvd just past Minnesota. When police and medics arrived on scene they discovered a male bicyclist who was unconscious and he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Just after 3:00 p.m. two lanes of westbound traffic on Northern Lights were closed for police to conduct an investigation of the collision, leaving one lane open. It was reported to police that the bicyclist was traveling southbound across the street when he was struck in the middle lane by a gray Subaru heading westbound on Northern Lights Blvd. The accident is still under investigation.
