APD Participates in Alaska Federation of Natives Convention

ANCHORAGE – The Anchorage Police Department is excited to play a large role in this year’s Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention as well as the First Alaskans Elders and Youth Conference. APD aims to ensure all Anchorage residents and visiting AFN delegates feel safe and welcomed during the convention.

During the convention;

  • The Visit Anchorage log cabin will be staffed by APD officers to provide safety tips for anyone in the downtown area,
  • Increased officers on foot patrol will be in and around the Dena’ina Center
  • APD is partnering with Village Public Safety Officers (VPSO’s) from around the state to increase patrols and law enforcement presence,
  • Officers will be available Thursday during the food truck round up from 11:30-1pm for delegates and residents,
  • And the Anchorage Police Department in partnership with Anchorage Cops for Community is hosting a Coffee with a Cop Friday at 12pm at Dark Horse Coffee.

“The Anchorage Police Department is happy to welcome delegates from across the State to Anchorage for this year’s AFN convention,” said Patrol Captain Julie Shank. “We want a safe productive conference for all participants and visitors.”

Multiple units within APD, like patrol, recruitment, and the CAP team, have been actively working with the Municipality of Anchorage, AFN, First Alaskans and other event organizers to coordinate these efforts.
