Subject: APD Names New Deputy Chief
The Anchorage Police Department has promoted APD Captain Myron Fanning to Deputy Chief. Capt. Myron Fanning will assume the role of Deputy Chief effective March 31, 2014.
Fanning has been with the Anchorage Police Department since 1992. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, Lieutenant in 2008, and to Captain in 2013. As a Captain, Fanning oversaw the Crime Suppression Division which includes the SWAT Unit, Special Assignment Unit, K9, EOD, Hostage/Negotiator Team, School Resources Officers, Impounds, and the Community Action Policing Team.
“Capt. Fanning will be a great leader of this department as Deputy Chief,” said APD Chief Mark Mew. “He cares a great deal about this department, and his dedication shows in his work. He exemplifies our mission statement of serving our community in the most professional and compassionate manner.”
Fanning replaces previous APD Deputy Chief, Steve Hebbe, who recently took the position of Chief of the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico.
