Subject: APD Investigates Shooting Death at Motel 6

Update on 0ct. 30, 2013: Anchorage Police are releasing the identity of the young adult male who died after a shooting at Motel 6 on Sunday night. The young adult male has been identified as 25-year-old Jose Cortez. His next of kin have been notified. The investigation is still ongoing to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional and whether any suspect(s) were involved.

Original Release Oct. 28, 2013:

APD Detectives are investigating a shooting which resulted in the death of a young adult male last night at the Motel 6 located at 5000 A St. APD Dispatch received a call at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 by an employee of the motel reporting a shooting in one of the rooms. When police responded they discovered a deceased male who had been shot in an upper level room. The APD Crime Scene Team and detectives were called out to investigate the incident. At this time, APD has not determined whether the shooting was intentional or accidental, and who fired the weapon.
