Subject: APD Arrests Suspected Armed Male after 4-hour Standoff with Police

Case: 13-56195

On Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 8:12 p.m. APD Dispatch received a report of a male who had pointed a gun at a female inside of an apartment located on the 800 block of W 11th Ave. As the female was attempting to leave the apartment with her infant, the male got into an altercation with the female, took possession of the baby and went back into the unit. The female left the apartment building to get help. Police responded and determined that the male was inside the apartment with the infant and was potentially armed. SWAT was called to the scene as well as APD negotiators. The male suspect was uncooperative with police and refused to come out of the unit.

Just after midnight, officers made entry into the unit and safely apprehended the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jeremiah Hancotte. Police also took possession of the infant. The infant was checked by medics and no injuries were reported. The infant was returned to the mother.

Hancotte has been charged with MIW 3 (felon in possession), Criminal Impersonation 1, one count of Kidnapping, two counts of Assault 3, one count of Assault 4, one count of Reckless Endangerment and MIW 4.

Note:      A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing.  All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
