Anchorage Police received a 911 call just after 4:30 this morning from a female stating she had been assaulted by her husband. The female indicated she fled to a neighbor’s apartment.
Officers responded to the 2800 block of West 31st Avenue to find the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home.
Shortly after officers attempted to make entry into the suspect’s apartment, he exited with a shotgun. The suspect refused to obey officers’ repeated commands to drop his weapon. He approached officers with shotgun in hand and two APD officers fired killing the suspect. The name of the suspect will be released once notification of next of kin has been made.
APD’s Major Crime Scene Team was called out to process the scene.
As per APD policy, the names of the officers involved will be placed on administrative leave. Their names will not be released for three days.
