On 2-23-10 at 1638 hours, a shooting took place in a mobile home park located at 3307 Boniface Parkway.  When police arrived at the scene they found 36 year old Samuel Colegrove of Anchorage in the street with a gunshot wound to the back side of his torso.  He was able to provide the police with the nickname of one of his assailants, who he identified as “Flo,” and a description of the shooter, who he said was a “small black kid.” Flo and the juvenile had come to the residence to retrieve Flo’s belongings but a physical altercation broke out over which items actually belonged to him.

During the investigation of this incident patrol officers stopped several witnesses to the shooting as they were leaving the area, one on foot and two in a vehicle.  Investigators and patrol officers then pieced together the account of what had happened and identified Flo as Jack “Flaco” Espinosa, a 29 year old Anchorage resident.  Espinosa was located hiding in the back of a GMC Suburban in the parking lot of the Northway Mall.  The juvenile, who is a relative of Espinosa, was located at his home on the 900 block of East 17th Avenue.  The juvenile’s mother told officers that Espinosa had stayed at that residence since he was released from jail the previous day and she pointed out his ankle monitor which had been removed and left in the residence.

As a result of the investigation, Jack Espinosa Jr. was charged with Assault 1st degree, Misconduct Involving Weapons 1st degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence.  His bail was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Anchorage Jail Court on 2-24-10 after 1430 hours.  The 15 year old juvenile was charged with Assault 1st degree, Misconduct Involving Weapons 1st degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence and was remanded at McLaughlin Youth Center.  The victim, Samuel Colegrove, remains in the hospital after surgery in stable condition.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing.  All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
