On 1-5-10 at 11:05 hours Anchorage Police officers responded to an accident at Lois Drive and Tudor Road. An Alaska Railroad train, comprised of an engine and two tank cars, was travelling northbound when a westbound 2001 Honda CRV passed under the lowered crossing barrier and was struck by the train engine. The driver of the Honda, 89 year old Sven Persson of Anchorage, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Persson’s vehicle was struck on the left front quarter panel and was spun clockwise away from the tracks by the collision.
Anchorage Police Department Patrol officers and the Alaska Railroad investigators are investigating this collision.
Drivers are reminded that railroad crossings are especially dangerous when roads are icy. Trains require a great distance to stop even while moving at slow speeds. Extra caution is required with road conditions like those we are currently experiencing.
