On 1-30-10 at 01:53 hours , a Dodge Stratus was northbound on Arctic Blvd when it struck a Ford Crown Victoria Yellow Cab which was west bound on Fireweed Lane as it passed through the intersection. The driver of the Yellow Cab was transported to a local hospital where he died of the injuries he received in the crash. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Dodge Stratus was Larry Brewer, a 39 year old Anchorage resident. He also was transported to a local hospital but has been released. Neither vehicle carried passengers.
Officers who responded to the scene believe that the cause of the collision was a red light violation, because the collision took place in a controlled intersection. This collision is under investigation by the APD’s Major Collision Investigation Team and Fatality Investigators. It has not yet been determined which driver committed the red light violation. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this fatal collision.
