Anchorage Police have arrested a man following a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of a minor. On January 19, 2010, a victim told police that Marty Stokes, age 23, of Anchorage, found her My Space page and had begun chatting with her.  Although the victim stated she was 19, her My Space page revealed she was in high school with a graduation date in 2013, making her a freshman or sophomore.  Stokes began texting the girl, offering to help her with her homework.  He picked her up in his red Pontiac sedan three times and twice took her back to his house where he proceeded to have sexual relations with the girl.

Detectives arrested Stokes on January 21, charging him with Sexual Abuse of a Minor.  He was remanded to the Anchorage Jail where he quickly made his $15,000 bail and is currently out.  Detectives are concerned that Stokes may have additional victims or may be grooming young girls on My Space under the pretense of being a mentor.

Parents are encouraged to review their children’s social networking sites and report any activity such as this to police.  If you believe your child was a victim, call Anchorage Police at 786-8900 or Detective Davies at 786-8809.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing.  All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
