Police Investigate First Homicide of 2010

Anchorage Police received a 911 call yesterday, January 14th, 2010, just after 12:30 p.m. reference a man not breathing. The wife indicated her husband appeared to be dead and was instructed to leave the home and wait for officers to arrive.
Officers responded to the 11000 block of Polar Drive after receiving the call from the victim’s wife. She indicated that she last saw him in the morning when she left for work and that she had returned home after several unsuccessful attempts to reach her husband by telephone. When she arrived home, she found him lying on the kitchen floor.
The APD Crime Scene Team responded to the residence to process the scene. The death is being investigated as a homicide. The exact cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner. However, to protect the integrity of the investigation, the cause of death will not be released. The victim is identified as 44-year-old Steven Hardies.
