Police Department

On 1-9-10 at 01:56 hours an Anchorage Police patrol officer, after responding to an earlier call for service in the area of 14th Avenue and Medfra Street, was seated in  his police vehicle on Medfra. At that time a dark colored sedan described by witnesses as an early 90’s model, possibly a Chevrolet product, pulled up beside him. When the sedan approached, an occupant opened fire on the officer.  Multiple shots were fired and the officer was struck by several bullets. The suspect vehicle then left the scene southbound on Medfra turning westbound on East 15th Avenue. Back-up units arrived immediately and the injured officer was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  They are not currently considered life-threatening.

Detectives from the APD Homicide Unit and Robbery /Assaults Unit are conducting an investigation into this shooting.  They are currently reviewing video evidence and are being assisted by the Major Crime Scene Team. They do not believe that the shooting was related to the call for service that the officer was working on at the time the shots were fired.

No suspects have been arrested and investigators are requesting that anyone with information about this crime call 786-8900 or CrimeStoppers at 561-STOP (7867).
