April 30th, 2013, marks ONE YEAR since the last alcohol related fatality accident in Anchorage, and the Anchorage Police Department joins the rest of the community in wanting to see that trend continue! 

Every year thousands of people die in alcohol related traffic accidents, still more suffer life-altering injuries and countless others are impacted by devastating after-effects.  Tragically, these accidents could have been avoided by making the choice to NOT DRIVE while impaired...(more)

APD IS RECRUITING FOR POLICE OFFICERS

Applications are now being accepted for Police Officer through the Municipality’s online job application system, and will be accepted through May 24th, 2013.  Those meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a rigorous testing and interview process, including (but not limited to) a reading and comprehension test, a physical ability test, a polygraph exam, psychological assessment, and a thorough background check...(more)

A Message from the Police Chief 

On behalf of the Anchorage Police Department I’d like to welcome you to our webpage. The Anchorage Police Department’s Mission states that we are “to protect and serve our community in the most professional and compassionate manner possible.”  I am proud to lead the men and women of the Anchorage Police Department who not only take pride in our mission and the community we serve, but strive to continually improve the quality of life for the citizens. After all, the public has justifiable expectations that the police should make citizens feel secure in their community.

The Anchorage Police Department has developed and implemented a long range blueprint for taking the Department through the next five years. This Strategic Plan not only provides a continued direction of the objectives of the Department, but also a gauge by which we can measure ourselves on a yearly basis. This year we continue to endeavor in our long range goals, while at the same time working hard to meet the immediate needs of a deserving community. As in the previous years, the philosophy of community policing is a priority. It is a philosophy of a true police and community collaboration. We must initiate and maintain relationships between the citizens and the police department. If we are successful, we stand a better chance of maintaining safe neighborhoods for this generation and those to come.
