The Anchorage Police Department would like to thank each and every military service member for their dedicated service to our country. We are very proud of all of you. Over 80 of our officers and support staff members come from your ranks and now continue their service at the community level. We whole heartedly encourage you to take a good hard look at our police department and our community. We are confident that both of them will pass your inspection.
The Anchorage Police Department wants to do more than just thank you for your service. We would like to encourage and enable you to continue your military service by offering fifteen military leave days per year, in addition to the six weeks of annual leave, to attend IRR assignments, National Guard and Military Reserve Annual Training sessions. For those service members eligible for the Montgomery G.I. bill, you will be qualified to collect educational monies during our Academy in addition to our $22.28 recruit hourly wage. By participating in the National Guard or Reserves you will be working toward two retirements simultaneously.
A Note to Active Duty Military:
Our department conducts entry-level testing for police officers every three months. The entire selection process takes approximately 4 months from date of test to job offer. Academies are usually scheduled to take place once or twice a year.
Various aspects of the selection process are only valid for a specific length of time. Therefore, active duty military members are encouraged to apply no earlier than 6 months prior to their estimated separation date, because any selection step that has expired must be repeated. These steps include written testing, psychological assessment, polygraph exam, medical exam and background investigation.
Local Bases
